Drop in North Ayrshire drug supply charges as cannabis farms decrease
dailyrecord.co.ukDrug supply charges in North Ayrshire ended the year down 22 per cent on the five-year average.There was a marked reduction (58) in the number of charges being brought compared with both the previous year (75) and the five-year average (74.4 per cent).Chief superintendent Faroque Hussain said “The reason for a fall in drug supply charges is down to a number of reasons."We take a pan-Ayrshire approach to this and last year we were particularly effective in our drug supply activities."Cannabis cultivations have also recorded a decrease with 13 identified in 2022-23 compared with 19 the previous year.Pro activity remains the main focus and means by which these charges are obtained, identifying any real patterns to where these crimes requires the combined work of local officers and divisional staff, building on the community intelligence provided by North Ayrshire residents, community groups or via Crimestoppers.Police remain responsive to information and intelligence on drug supply developing this information into enforcement action by a proactive crime team supported by the priority and local policing teams.The total value of drugs recovered was £35,340 - resulting in six supply charges.
