A Dalbeattie family will bring in the New Year with their special baby boy who fought for his life and won. Little Niko McColl weighed the same as “a tub of spreadable butter” when he was born three months early.

Mum Stacey Kennedy needed an emergency Caesarian section at the Princess Royal Maternity Hospital in Glasgow. Niko was just 600 grammes – 1lb 5ozs – but has grown like a mushroom ever since.

Now Stacey, partner Graeme McColl and daughters Jamie-Leigh and Madison can’t wait for 2023 – and Niko’s first birthday on February 3.

Stacey said: “It will be an extra special New Year celebration and a new start for us all. “I can’t thank the medical teams enough at DGRI and especially in Glasgow.

Birmingham label responds to copyright claim by Punjabi singer
Birmingham-based record label Silver Streak Records has responded to a lawsuit filed in the UK last year by Pakistan-based Punjabi singer Akram Rahi, who claimed that the label has infringed his rights by distributing his recordings to digital music platforms.According to Law360, in a formal response to that legal claim, Silver Streak director Kamraan Ahmed argues that his company owns the rights in the Rahi tracks that it has distributed to the download stores and streaming services.That’s on the basis that the label arranged for the recordings to be made, which would make it the default owner of the sound recording copyrights under UK law.Ahmed’s response also details previous disagreements between the label and Rahi over who has the rights to upload those recordings to YouTube and to claim revenues via the Google video site’s Content ID system.The label is now seeking confirmation from the court that it owns the rights in the tracks and is due any profits they generate.
