Covid cases have fallen across England and Wales for the second week in a row, suggesting the rise in cases seen in early autumn are on their way out.
There were 12,123 new cases of Covid reported in England in the week up to October 14, according to the latest government data.
That works out at 21.4 cases for every 100,000 people in the country. That’s down from 28.5 cases per 100,000 people a week earlier, and from a peak rate of 29.6 on October 2. Meanwhile, in Wales there were 369 new cases in the week leading up to October 14, at a rate of 11.6 for every 100,000 people.
That’s down slightly from a rate of 12.4 a week earlier. It suggests that the rise in Covid cases this autumn have peaked.
