Viewers of the ITV soap have never really trusted the solicitor ever since he arrived as Dee-Dee Bailey's new love interest.
Then as his relationship with Dee-Dee progressed, Joel appeared as he seemed. That was until earlier this year when it was revealed that he was Lauren Bolton's 'secret boyfriend' and was behind her disappearance and presumed murder after he was seen attacking her with a chair leg.
It was unclear if Lauren was still alive until July, when she returned to visit a poorly Roy Cropper, who had just ben released from prison suspected of killing her.
