Ayrshire clubs bemused as cup chiefs demand kids are charged for entry to games

Ayrshire clubs have been left bemused after cup chiefs made the decision to charge children for entry to grounds across Scotland at the weekend.

Teams had been advertising free entry for Under-16s for their South Challenge Cup ties on Saturday – which is standard practice for most West of Scotland League teams.But a damning email to clubs from cup organisers demanded clubs must charge kids at least £3, with no minimum age bracket specified for an entry fee.An email to clubs from South Challenge Cup competition secretary Richard Osborne read: "It has been brought to my attention that some clubs are advertising free entry for Under-16s for this weekend's SRCC matches."To reiterate the previously sent information that minimum admission prices are adults £5 and concessions £3 with season tickets not valid and no complimentary entry permitted."The SRCC competition committee have determined that Under-16s are considered to be concessions."There are no options for the two competing clubs in each tie to agree alternate arrangements.
