Ayr park and ride announced for air show to ease congestion in town
dailyrecord.co.ukCouncil chiefs are getting ahead of the game organising parking arrangements for September’s new-look air show, as thousands are expected to descend upon Ayr shorefront for the aircraft extravaganza.‘Park and ride’ and ‘park and walk’ options have been unveiled as South Ayrshire Council welcome Apex Traffic Management to head up their traffic management programme for The International Ayr Show – Festival of Flight.
It’s anticipated there will be congestion and delays around the town centre as residents and visitors flock to Ayr beach for the festival, which flying display director Les Garside-Beattie OBE projected could become the ‘largest public event’ on Scotland’s calendar.
The three-day celebration, which takes place between Friday, September 8 to Sunday, September 10, will see thrilling aerial displays- including the iconic Red Arrows and recently announced RAF helicopter Chinook- as well as family entertainment and activities.The Apex events team will oversee all traffic management operations ahead of and during the event, including the set-up of traffic controls and traffic management and car parking signage.A park and ride and park and walk for people travelling to the new air show will be available, with details on both to be announced at a later date.Representatives will also be on site throughout the event to make sure people can travel to and from the festival with minimal disruption.Iain Griffin, Apex Traffic Management’s general manager, said: “The Apex Traffic Management team are looking forward to working alongside South Ayrshire Council and all their partners on this prestigious event.“Our events team, guided by Willie Reilly, have been working on a new dynamic park and ride as well as a new park and
