Many parts of Scotland were battered with heavy rainfall and thunderstorms this weekend, and weather experts have warned that there could be even more on the way.The Met Office has issued a warning for thunderstorms on Sunday, July 16, urging people to take care whilst travelling as the downpours could lead to flooding and transport delays.

It's also possible that certain areas in northeast Scotland could see hailstones and lightning strikes occurring throughout the afternoon before clearing up into the evening.

The warning is in place from 11am on Sunday July 16 until 6pm in the evening, and covers Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire and Moray. The Met Office said: "Scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms will develop across northeast Scotland from late morning, before dying out late this afternoon. "Rainfall totals of 15-20mm within an hour could occur, with one or two places perhaps seeing 30mm within 2-3 hours.

Lightning and hail could be additional hazards."During this time, driving conditions may be affected by spray on the roads, which could lead to longer journey times so be sure to plan ahead before setting off.
