The mum of a woman who tragically died after collapsing at an airport in Turkey says her child is "still saving lives". Melissa Kinsella, a mum-of-three, was waiting to board a flight home after a holiday when she went into cardiac arrest at Antalya Airport in May last year.
The 30-year-old's loved ones raised £50,000 to transport her back to the UK for treatment but Melissa died just hours after landing back in England.
A tragic twist of fate revealed Nicole's cousin suffered a similar medical emergency. The now 28-year-old was fitted with an ICD - an implantable cardioverter defibrillator - and underwent testing for Long QT syndrome, a genetic heart condition.Long QT syndrome can lead to serious complications including blackouts, seizures, and even sudden cardiac death, particularly in young and healthy individuals.
The NHS recognises it as a major cause of sudden cardiac death among this demographic and also links it to sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS).Genetic testing lead to several extended family members including Melissa's mum Michelle, being diagnosed.
