World Bowls Championship selection for Lanarkshire quartet

Four Lanarkshire bowlers have been selected for Bowls Scotland’s for the 2023 World Bowls Championships in Australia.Scotland will send a full contingent of 18 players in men’s, women’s and para to the competition, which takes place in the Gold Coast, Australia, from August 29 until September 10.Thirteen debutants feature in the Scottish line-up in the first World Bowls Championships to be held since 2016.Lesmahagow’s Iain McLean is in the men’s team, taking part in singles, and looking to build on the bronze medal he won at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.McLean will also team up with Jason Banks in the pairs.The men’s team will be led by Alex Marshall MBE and Paul Foster MBE.Motherwell’s former World Bowls Championships gold medallist Caroline Brown will spearhead the women’s team, and she was victorious in fours at the event in Adelaide, Australia, in 2012.Caroline will be accompanied by Claire Anderson from Hamilton, Carla Banks and Stacey McDougall in fours.Brown will also compete with Banks and McDougall in triples, and Anderson will be joined by Emma McIntyre in pairs.For the first time in World Bowls Championships history, para disciplines will be included, with seven of the eight gold medallists from the Commonwealth Games selected.Garry Brown from Kirkmuirhill will link up with 2022 Bowls Scotland Para Open Pairs winner Danny Porter.Rosemary Lenton and Pauline Wilson will compete in women’s B6-B8 pairs, and the visually impaired B2-B3 mixed pairs will be contested by Melanie Inness and Robert Barr.George Miller and Jane Ewing have been selected as directors for the visually impaired mixed pairs discipline.Men’s head coach Frazer Muirhead said: “We have selected an excellent blend of top-class players
