The most popular baby names of 2023 so far have been revealed - with a new top spot for girls' names. BabyCentre has released their mid-year top 100 charts, which offer a sneak peek at the current baby naming trends ahead of the final results at the end of the year, the Mirror reports.

And last year's most popular girls' name has been knocked off the top spot. Sophia has been replaced at number one by Lily - which has increased in popularity after finishing in second at the end of 2022.

When BabyCentre released their half-year results last year, Lily was in the number one spot after having pushed Olivia off the top for the first time since 2015, but by the time the final list was published in December, Sophia had climbed from second to first.
