A woman was rescued after getting into difficulties in the River Mersey this evening. It happened at the stretch of the river in Didsbury shortly before 5pm.
Fire crews, police and paramedics raced to Stenner Lane near Fletcher Moss Gardens after the alarm was raised. Eyewitnesses reported a number of emergency service vehicles parked just off Wilmslow Road near The Didsbury and Ye Olde Cock Inn pubs.

She was then handed over to the care of the ambulance service. The Manchester Evening News understands she was conscious and breathing.
