‘Peaky Blinders’ star Cillian Murphy is ‘open’ to movie version of hit series
Peaky Blinders” gangster Tommy Shelby could jump to the big screen.Series star Cillian Murphy, who played crime-family patriarch Tommy in the period British drama series (2013-2022), said he’s open to the idea of a “Peaky Blinders” movie in a wide-ranging interview he did with Margot Robbie in Variety.Murphy and Robbie, 33, talked about their summer box-office behemoths “Oppenheimer” (Murphy) and “Barbie” (Robbie) — which spawned the fan-frenzy “Barbenheimer” craze (people seeing both movies) — as part of the “Actors on Actors” series. In the sit-down, Robbie brings up “Peaky Blinders” and says she’s “obsessed” with the BBC series, created by Steven Knight, which streamed on Netflix.“In my opinion, there are two kinds of people in this world,” she said. “There are people who are obsessed with ‘Peaky Blinders,’ and then there’s the people who haven’t seen ‘Peaky Blinders.’ I obviously sit in the first category, so can we please talk about Tommy f—ing Shelfy for just one minute? … Is there going to be a spinoff movie?”“I mean, I’m open to the idea,” Murphy says.
