Why a dry mouth could be a cause for concern - the five worrying illnesses it could signal

A health expert has warned that a dry mouth could be a symptom of five serious illnesses. It can be caused by a variety of factors, including snoring, medication, smoking or drinking too much alcohol.

But a leading dentist has also warned it could be a red flag for potentially life-changing conditions, including diabetes, stroke and HIV, reports the ECHO.

Dr Azad Eyrumlu, of leading private dental firm Banning Dental Group, said that a persistent dry mouth can often be a sign of something going wrong elsewhere in the body.

He told the Mirror: “A dry mouth can be a sign something’s not right elsewhere. This can manifest itself with symptoms such as a sticky feeling in the mouth, a dry or sore throat, difficulty chewing or swallowing or even bad breath.
