A Victorian barracks on the outskirts of Manchester city centre has been sold. Ardwick Green Barracks, which was designed by Mancunian architect Lawrence Booth, was opened by Prince George, the Prince of Cambridge, in 1887.
Later, it was home to the 8th battalion of the Manchester Regiment before they were mobilised to the Western Front during the First World War.
After the Second World War, during which time it was used as a detention centre, the 8th battalion returned to their earlier home.
From 1967 to 2018 it was the headquarters to a succession of territorial and volunteers army companies – the last from 2006 being D (Inkerman) Company of the 4th Battalion of the Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment. READ MORE: "You have destroyed our family...
