Exciting news today. The English National Opera WILL be coming to Greater Manchester. That’s despite a backlash against the decision in the national press earlier this year and ardent campaigning against a decision by Arts Council England to slash funding unless the company moved out of the capital.
ENO has now confirmed it is working with local leaders on a plan to make the city-region its main home by 2029, as Joseph Timan reports.
Arts Council England has awarded £24m to the opera company to develop an artistic programme in a new base outside of London during the 2024-26 period.
