Perth and Kinross Council's (PKC) Conservative group has panned the SNP administration for its decision to close public toilets in Auchterarder, Blairgowrie, Crieff and Perth.

A Save Our Loos petition launched by the Conservatives in November has drawn over 400 signatures. Tory leader John Duff said the matter had attracted "considerable anger" from residents and businesses who fear it could have a "disastrous impact" on the local economy. At last week's budget-setting meeting, the Conservative group said keeping toilets open was their "number one" priority.

However, its proposal to put £85,000 in the PKC 2024/25 revenue budget to keep them open was rejected. At Wednesday's meeting Conservative councillor John Duff said: "In last year’s budget, the SNP proposed the closure of the attended public toilets in Auchterarder, Blairgowrie, Crieff and Marshall Place in Perth from March 31 this year, leaving only the attended toilets in Pitlochry and Dunkeld areas open.

This has resulted in considerable anger among residents and businesses in these areas and elected members have received numerous approaches about the disastrous impact this will have on the local economy. He added: "While some efforts have been made to progress Community Asset Transfers, nothing is in place a year later so these toilets will be closed at the end of next month."A Save Our Loos petition has been raised which has been signed by over 400 people.
