Dieting guru Dr Michael Mosley has listed three non-meat foods that will help you get more protein in your diet. The diet guru, creator of Fast 800 and 5:2 eating plans and author of Just One Thing, explained the benefits of incorporating more protein in your diet, especially as you age.
Protein is needed for growth and repair of body tissues and is especially important for healthy muscles and bones. It may also help you lower body fat, keep lean muscle, feel full and lose weight.During a question and answer session on forum Mumsnet, Dr Mosley emphasised the importance of eating protein for your health, but explained that you don't have to eat just meat and fish to get your daily intake.
He listed tofu, greek yoghurt and lentils as great protein-rich foods that you can incorporate in your diet. One person asked: “You say that people should aim for at least 20g of protein per meal and that you aim for 100g per day (so more).
The only way I can see of achieving something like that is by having some kind of meat or fish at least twice a day.“Yet you also advocate eventually settling on a “Mediterranean style” diet which, if I understand correctly, involves only moderate amounts of fish and quite sparing amounts of meat, with grains, pulses etc.
