Hello, You might have thought the row over the future of Oldham Coliseum was over after the venue closed its doors for good back in March after nearly 140 years.
As we know, the plan is now for the Coliseum theatre company to anchor a £26m new theatre in the town in the former Post Office and Quaker meeting house on Union Street - though that won’t happen until 2026.
But Dame Vanessa Redgrave, Sir Ian McKellen and Dame Emma Thompson are among those now calling for ‘the Coli’ to reopen and be restored as a producing house.
A letter published in The Stage and signed by a number of actors, artists and community leaders calls for fresh talks about the old theatre, which they say is ‘not beyond repair’.
