Shotts youngsters learn about the role of Salvation Army's 'doughnut girls' during First World War

In the run-up to Remembrance Day, children in Shotts paid their respects to members of the Armed Forces who died in conflict, while learning about the Salvation Army’s involvement with troops during the WWI.The youngsters who attend the Kids Alive after-school club in the town place crafted poppies into their planters as they remembered the human cost of war.They also learned about how the Salvation Army cared for soldiers during the the First World War, when the organisation provided refreshment huts in military camps as well as ambulances, and often worked in field hospitals.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.
