He's spent much of the last few weeks on social media taking aim at female football commentators and pundits. But former Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has also been involved in plenty of other controversies over the years.
Barton, who came through the youth system at City before making his first team debut in 2002 and lived the dream by scoring at Old Trafford in the Manchester derby, has singled out a string of female pundits and players on X.
The 41-year-old, who was sacked by Bristol Rovers in October, compared Eni Aluko and Lucy Ward to serial killers Fred and Rose West, argued women 'aren't qualified' to talk about the game and also criticised the likes of Mary Earps, Alex Scott and Bianca Westwood.
ITV slammed Barton's comments about Aluko and Ward as 'contemptible and shameful'. Gary Neville also waded in to defend his fellow pundits, posting: "I come from a family that has fought these issues for years and I've witnessed it first hand.
