A supermarket has gone from being the second cheapest to second most expensive in just three weeks. Following anger over its 'relentless' price rises last year, more recently Morrisons was faring much better in our weekly price comparison of grocery essentials.
Earlier this month, its bill for the eight products we've been tracking was just 5p more than the cheapest Lidl, coming in at £11.93 for a two-pint bottle of milk, a loaf of bread, a pack of chicken breasts, a pack of mince, tea bags, coffee, beans and butter.
Even budget retailer Aldi was more expensive, at £12 for the shopping basket. Read more: Join the FREE Manchester Evening News WhatsApp community But this week that's all changed, as two price rises at the supermarket, on beans and chicken, have pushed it up to £12.42, just 3p cheaper than the most expensive, Asda.
The increase on beans is just 2p, with the Savers tin up from 25p to 27p, but its pack of two chicken breasts has risen by a whopping 15%, from £2.25 to £2.59.
