Stewartry beaches achieve good marks for bathing water quality

Bathing water along the Stewartry coast remains of a good quality. But campaigners have expressed concern about the number of occasions untreated sewage has been discharged into watercourses.

During the bathing water season, SEPA took samples from a number of the region’s beaches to check for bacteria such as e. coli.

Sandyhills, Carrick, Brighouse Bay, Rockcliffe and Southerness have once again being deemed good, the status that has also been awarded to Mossyard.

It had previously received an excellent rating. Dhoon Bay was again deemed sufficient. Scotland has 89 designated bathing waters, with 98 per cent receiving at least a sufficient classification.
