A statement from the RFEF on Sunday evening read: "The RFEF deeply regrets to report the death of Olga Carmona's father.The soccer player learned the sad news after the World Cup final. "We send our most sincere hugs to Olga and her family in a moment of deep pain.

We love you, Olga, you are the history of Spanish football." A cause of death has not been given. Olga has made no official statement or mention of her father's death on Instagram, however, she did post a snap of herself after she scored her goal, as she lifted her shirt to reveal the word 'Merchi' drawn on the one beneath.
