Shawhead Primary chosen as regional champion of Green Education in Schools Awards

Shawhead School has been selected as a regional champion of the primary awards for Green Education in Schools 2023. Almost 40,000 young people were involved in the creation of entries for this year’s competition, with Shawhead scooping the accolade with their Shore Explorers project.

The children wanted to do something about marine plastic pollution so started a business making wind chimes out of recycled plastic as well as driftwood and shells to sell to raise money for the Marine Conservation Society.

They presented their business at a Dragon’s Den event, organised by the Social Enterprise Academy. They were the only primary school present and were awarded £50 for their hard work.

Headteacher Ms Little sent in their work to the judges and they were named Scotland and Northern Ireland champions, winning them £750.
