Mae Muller has spoken to NME about leaving her record label to become an independent artist, feeling “at peace” with Eurovision and headlining this week’s Club NME event.The 26-year-old singer-songwriter will take to the stage at London’s Scala on Friday (April 12) for a live headline set. Mae Muller headlined the most recent edition of Club NME with Ladbrokes LIVE this weekend at London’s Scala (April 12).In what was her first headline show of the year, Muller debuted tracks from her 2023 album ‘Sorry I’m Late’ for the first time returning to the stage in style. Performing to a hometown crowd who knew every lyric, the set spanned from fan favourite ‘Work Like That’ through to her enormous single ‘I Wrote A Song’, which was the UK’s Eurovision entry for 2023.The crowd were also treated to DJ sets from pop royalty Self Esteem and drag icon Raven Mandella, the latter of whom kicked things off with a colourful, energetic set.

Self Esteem has delivered a stripped-down cover of ‘Remember’ by Becky Hill and David Guetta while performing for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.Rebecca Lucy Taylor’s primarily a cappella rendition of the 2021 song considerably pares back the high-energy electro-pop of the original. For the most part, she’s accompanied solely by a group of backing vocalists providing harmonies, with some understated but effective piano chords towards the latter half of the song.Taylor also performed ‘Fucking Wizardry’ from last year’s ‘Prioritise Pleasure’, also with a relatively sparse arrangement.

Self Esteem, has digitally released the soundtrack to West End production Prima Facie.Directed by Justin Martin and starring Killing Eve actress Jodie Comer, Prima Facie is a one-person play that follows Comer as criminal defence barrister Tessa Ensler.Taylor was announced as the composer of the music for the play earlier this year, writing on Twitter: “The coolest thing I’ve ever done is no longer a secret!!!! Charli XCX, Florence Welch and more have also expressed similar sentiments.Halsey, meanwhile, said earlier this month: “I have a song that I love that I wanna release ASAP, but my record label won’t let me… my record company is saying that I can’t release it unless they can fake a viral moment on TikTok.
