Rebecca Rubin Film and Media Reporter Neon has acquired North American rights to Sean Baker‘s new romantic comedic drama, “Anora.” Plot details have been kept under wraps for the movie, which is currently in post-production and is aiming to release in theaters in 2024.

It was filmed in Brooklyn and stars Mikey Madison, Mark Eydelshteyn, Yuriy Borisov, Karren Karagulian and Vache Tovmasyan. In addition to writing and directing, Baker produced “Anora” with Samantha Quan and Alex Coco.

Drew Daniels served as director of photography and shot the film on 35mm. “Anora” is the eighth writing and directing endeavor for Baker, whose filmography includes 2021’s dark comedy “Red Rocket,” which stars Simon Rex; 2017’s Oscar-nominated “The Florida Project,” featuring Willem Dafoe and Brooklynn Prince; and 2015’s indie drama “Tangerine.” The deal was negotiated by Neon’s president of acquisitions, Jason Wald, with FilmNation’s CEO Glen Basner on behalf of the filmmakers.

FilmNation Entertainment is handling the worldwide rights, and has licensed rights internationally to Le Pacte in France, Lev in Israel, Kismet in Australia and New Zealand, and Focus Features/Universal Pictures International for the rest of the world.
