Controversial plans have been unveiled for a new fifth tier Scottish Conference, which would feature Premiership 'B' teams against some from the Highland and Lowland Leagues. It is claimed that Premiership clubs might be prepared to pay for the league with entry fees. The new fifth tier would sit between League Two and the Highland and Lowland Leagues.According to the Daily Mail the league would see four Premiership 'B' teams join three from each of the Highland and Lowland Leagues from season 2024-25, but could be fast-tracked to next season.Clubs have been given to the end of next week to respond to three proposals set out by the pyramid working group. One is whether the 'B' teams will be allowed to gain promotion, or allowed to get to League One but not beyond.Another idea is an expansion of League Two from 10 to 16, including 'B' teams and some from the Lowland and Highland Leagues. There is also an option to introduce the 10-team league without promotion.

It is also proposed that Premiership clubs could pay for the league through fees, setting it up as a separate company, meaning they don't need 75 per cent support across the SPFL.Lowland League clubs will discuss their position on the proposals at a meeting on Monday night.Follow Lanarkshire Live Sport onTwitter via@LanLiveSport, like us onFacebookor find us onInstagramfor the latest sports news, pictures and video.
