A Scots mum and daughter have told how they feel lucky to be alive after their car was washed off a 30ft cliff by a powerful landslide.Kiera Smith and mum Fiona were travelling on the A83 in Argyll and Bute on Saturday morning when their vehicle was suddenly rushed with water.A passing police officer stopped to help the stricken duo but screamed at them to “run” just seconds later as a mountain of muddy debris came barreling towards them. The powerful flood swept their Vauxhall Zafira over the cliff edge and down into a ravine as the two women ran for safety while dodging rocks and tree branches. They were rescued by a kind-hearted lorry driver who managed to turn the vehicle round just seconds before a third landslide covered the roadway.
Kiera, 19, from Campbeltown, said: “After the car was washed away, we were just numb and in shock.“When it properly hit us, we were just crying and couldn’t stop.
The actions of that police officer most likely saved our lives.“If she hadn’t screamed for us to run, I don’t know what would have happened.
We’d probably have been taken over the edge with the car. It all just happened so quickly.”Kiera and mum Fiona, 44, had been attempting to get to Ayr when they spotted rocks on the roadway.
