The late Queen once made a 'stinging' remark to Kate Middleton about how many luxury holidays she'd been on and it seems she took it to heart.

The Princess of Wales was reportedly advised by Her Majesty, who died at Balmoral Castle last September, to cut down on her lavish jetsetting and instead, perhaps seek a 'proper job'.The quip is said to have 'stung' Kate, 41, who is now a key member of the Royal Family and will one day become Queen herself.

In the honeymoon years of their relationship, William and Kate were regularly seen holidaying on the Caribbean island of Mustique with the Middleton family, or on frequent ski trip in the Alps.

In her 2010 book William and Harry, royal expert Katie Nicholl claimed: "If she was not with William at Balmoral then the couple were skiing or holidaying on Mustique. "Kate was there so often the press dubbed her 'Queen of Mustique', a title that had previously belonged to Princess Margaret'." The book went on to claim that such "frivolous displays of wealth were unpalatable to the Queen" and that Her Majesty reportedly believed any relationship announcements about the couple should be "postponed until Kate was settled in a career." In the book, Katie quoted a source who said: "It is Her Majesty’s opinion that if Kate is one day going to be William’s consort, then she needs a proper job. "Swanning from one five-star holiday resort to another is not the prerequisite for a young woman possibly destined to be Queen." Ms Nicholl goes so far as to claim Kate was "stung" by the Queen's words.
