Members of the Royal Family are notorious for their funny tradition of buying each other gag gifts at Christmas time, with previous presents including a leather toilet seat, a 'grow your own girlfriend kit' and even a shower cap which had “Ain’t life a b****” written on it.

While these gifts are supposed to be utterly bizarre, there is one present that was gifted by the Princess of Wales that highlighted a sentimental break with tradition.

Kate herself spoke about giving this gift to her grandmother-in-law and the nerves she felt at the time. During her first Christmas spent with the Royal Family at Sandringham in Norfolk, Kate admitted she was worried about what to give the Queen.

While it is well-known that the family opt for joke presents for the grown ups, it seems Kate looked no further than her own grandmother for her inspiration.
