Prince William is currently on his first official solo visit to New York but while his devoted wife Kate Middleton is often on his arm during royal trips, this time she chose to stay at home for a very understandable reason.

According to the pair's imperial PR team, the Prince of Wales is staying back in the UK to take care of the couple's three kids, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

Although the couple have regular help from the children's long term nanny, Maria Teresa Turrion Borrallo, they are very hands-on parents and still take their own turns driving their kids to school as well as trying their best to be home when they come back at the end of the day. This is all an attempt from William and Kate to 'give their children a normal life' to the best of their ability whilst also preparing them for their future royal duties which would be a hard task for any parent, the Mirror reports.

A palace insider previously told PEOPLE exclusively: "It's a massive balancing act. William and Kate are doing the right thing, protecting him so he can have as normal a childhood as possible, but he's also dipping into duties as a future monarch." The 41-year-old Prince of Wales is currently in New York for today's Earthshot Prize Innovation Summit where he will reveal this year's 15 finalists before winners are announced during the 2023 Earthshot Prize awards ceremony in Singapore later this year.
