After 13 days in hospital to recover from her "planned abdominal surgery," the Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery and is “making good progress," Kensington Palace said.The full statement reads: “The Princess of Wales has returned home to Windsor to continue her recovery from surgery.

She is making good progress. “The prince and princess wish to say a huge thank you to the entire team at The London Clinic, especially the dedicated nursing staff, for the care they have provided. “The Wales family continues to be grateful for the well wishes they have received from around the world.” The Princess was admitted to the London Clinic – the same private hospital where the King has undergone treatment for an enlarged prostate – for a planned operation on January 16.The 42 year old future Queen is not expected to return to official duties until after Easter, and the Prince of Wales has temporarily stepped back from his royal role to juggle caring for her and their children.

Among other royal events the Princess looks set to miss are St Patrick's Day (in her role as Colonel of the Irish Guards), Commonwealth Day, ANZAC day and the Royal Family's Easter service.

As well as royal fans expressing their relief at this positive step, Downing Street has welcomed the news. As it broke, the Prime Minister’s official spokesman told reporters at a Westminster briefing: “That would be welcome news both to the royal family and I’m sure to the public more widely.” During his wife's time in hospital, the Prince of Wales proved himself to be the ultimate hands-on dad and devoted husband as he put aside official engagements to allow him to be there for his family.
