The Prince and Princess of Wales have reached out with a heartfelt message to those affected by the harrowing event in Southport which saw two children succumb to their injuries.

In the aftermath of a terrifying incident at a children's holiday club in Southport, which unfolded at 11.50am on Monday 29 July and resulted in a significant emergency services response including armed police, fire crews, and numerous ambulances, two children were tragically killed.

Six others suffered severe injuries; three others were less seriously hurt and two adults are also fighting for their lives.Taking to Twitter, William and Kate conveyed their deep sympathy: "As parents, we cannot begin to imagine what the families, friends and loved ones of those killed and injured in Southport today are going through.

We send our love, thoughts and prayers to all those involved in this horrid and heinous attack."
