Nine men were arrested in police raids today as part of a crackdown into county line drug supply and gangs in Salford. Specialist officers carried out 18 warrants across Salford, Gorton and Oldham on Thursday (July 20) as part of Operation Display.

Nine men were arrested and taken into police custody. They will all be questioned on suspicion of conspiracy to supply class A drugs, police said.

Operation Display was launched to crackdown on drug-dealing in Salford, which police said 'often leads to acts of violence' including shootings and stabbings - and 'some fatalities' over the past few years. Rival gangs are 'vying for control of the Salford Precinct and Eccles drug supply hotspots', officers added, with 'the dealing activity extending beyond Pendleton to areas such as Broughton, Higher Broughton and Eccles'.

Police believe the main drugs being supplied through county lines are heroin and crack cocaine, as well as cannabis. More warrants will be carried out in the coming days as part of the operation.
