There has been a "notable" decrease in anti-social behaviour by street drinkers in Bathgate's Steelyard following "high-visibility" police intervention.
Police will join West Lothian Council staff at a meeting tonight in the town's Partnership centre seeking the views of local shopkeepers to identify further potential improvements.
Shoplifting charges have been brought against two people, one a persistent offender who was remanded, and also at least one stop and search for drugs.
And a police day of action is planned to highlight safety and security issues in the town centre. Recent bad weather may have played its part too in curtailing bad behaviour in the last few weeks, Community PC Francis Sinnett told councillors on the Bathgate Local Area Committee this week. "The weather's not been kind [for street drinkers] but we'll take all the advantages we can," he told councillors.
