Police cordon in Manchester city centre as man rushed to hospital after stabbing

Police cordoned off a street in Manchester city centre on Sunday afternoon (August 13) after reports of a stabbing. Emergency services descended on Oldham Street, near the Northern Quarter, at around 4pm.

The victim, a 27-year-old man, was rushed to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening injuries from the scene. A large cordon was erected amid ongoing investigations with buses also diverted.

Enquires so far have led police to believe that the man was stabbed inside a premises on Oldham Street and that the incident was 'isolated'. Pictures from the scene on Sunday evening show a large cordon in place between Back Piccadilly and Warwick Street with a number of officers stationed within the cordon.

Stagecoach also confirmed their buses were diverted due to a 'serious police incident'. A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers are currently responding to an incident after reports came in at 4pm today (13 August 2023) that a man had been stabbed in a premises on Oldham Street in Manchester. “This is being treated as an isolated incident and the victim - a 27-year-old man - has been taken to hospital for treatment of serious injuries, although these are thankfully not believed to be life-threatening.
