Police bravery award for fallen Lanarkshire officer

A courageous Lanarkshire police officer murdered in the line of duty more than four decades ago has finally been recognised with a top honour from the force.PC George Taylor died when he was brutally attacked in one of Scotland’s most notorious cases, the 1976 rampage at and escape from Carstairs state hospital by Robert Mone and Thomas McCulloch.

Despite being nominated for a posthumous honour soon after his death, his sacrifice had never been officially recognised until the recent Police Scotland ceremony attended by his wife and family.The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now.

Police Scotland chief constable Sir Iain Livingstone confirmed last year that he would issue a posthumous bravery award; and the commendation was presented to the Taylor family on the 46th anniversary of the constable’s death.His wife Sally, children David, Stephen, Paul and Michelle and their families were invited to the police headquarters at Tulliallan Castle for a personal and “emotional” presentation of the chief constable’s commendation.The framed certificate honours PC Taylor for “displaying exceptional courage and bravery in confronting violent persons in
