Pitbull savages man in horror attack as armed cops swarm street

A young man has been airlifted to hospital with serious injuries after being attacked by a pitbull.The 24-year-old man was injured at around 7am at an address in Aberavon, near Port Talbot in south Wales.Cops have launched an investigation into the incident with a heavy police presence still at the residential street on Monday lunchtime.

Officers have removed a dog, believed to be a pitbull or Staffordshire bull terrier, from the scene. It is understood the animal has since been sedated, the Mirror reports.

A spokesman for South Wales Constabulary said: "Officers attended Blair Way, Aberavon at around 7am this morning (Monday June 17) following a report of an incident involving a man and a dog."A 24-year-old man has been taken to hospital by Air Ambulance with serious injuries.

The dog has been sedated and removed from the scene by Police Dog units. Our investigation is ongoing."The nature and extent of the man's injuries are not yet known.Armed cops swarmed the street around 7am and the public were advised to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.The air ambulance landed at the scene to provide support and the Welsh Ambulance Trust has confirmed that one person was taken to hospital.A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson has confirmation that one person has been taken to hospital after the incident.
