A person has tragically died after being struck by a train near a railway station in Bolton. Police, paramedics and National Rail workers were called to Kearsley railway station at around 4.30pm yesterday afternoon (Sunday).

An air ambulance was also scrambled to the scene and landed nearby, at the Stoneclough AFC pitch and Brook Street Park. A spokesperson for the British Transport Police (BTP) has confirmed in an update today that a person sadly died 'after reports of a casualty on the tracks'.

In a statement, the BTP spokesperson said: "We were called to Kearsley station shortly before 4.30pm yesterday, Sunday (21 July) following reports of casualty on the tracks. "Officers attended along with paramedics but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene.
