After a long week of work or school, many households look forward to a well-earned takeaway from the chippy. And no fish supper is complete without a generous sprinkling of salt and spraying of vinegar. However, people are only just discovering that their suppers aren't all that they seem to be.
That's because the vinegar that some chip shops use isn't actually vinegar. Certain chip shops will instead opt for something called 'non-brewed condiment'.
This vinegar replacement recreates the taste, but cannot actually be classified as vinegar. Most will never actually notice the fake vinegar as it tastes so similar.
It also offers some benefits over the popular chip-topper as it is cheaper to buy, easier to store since it can be concentrate and certain brands are halal or gluten-free, reports LadBible.
