Construction of specialised dyslexia school in Kenya underway thanks to support from Ayrshire artist

The construction of a new school for kids with dyslexia in Kenya is fast coming together, thanks to the help from an Ayrshire sculptor.

Mark Stoddart, from Turnberry, has invested in the building of a specialised dyslexia school, helping to change the life of 216 students at Rare Gem Talent School in Nairobi.

The 58-year-old artist- whose distinct and exotic work has been snapped up by celebrities including Elton John and even Saudi Arabian royalty - has been supporting the Kenya Dyslexia Organisation to realise their dreams in building a new education centre to replace the tin rented building they are currently in.Mark, who is dyslexic and a proud supporter of Dyslexia Scotland, credits his artistic success to the confidence he gained after attending Frewen College in Sussex, a school that specially catered for people with dyslexia.And he hopes the new Rare Gem Talent School - which also boasts land for students to grow their own food - can do the same for pupils, providing them with the tools and equipment they need to not let neurodiversity issues hold them back from learning.Mark has since been dubbed the school’s ‘angel’, by director Nancy M.
