Some Scots may want to know what train services will be available over the festive period this year. With many travelling to see their families, the trains are usually busy in the days leading up to Christmas.
The same goes for the days following the holiday as many head back to their homes.ScotRail does not operate trains on Christmas Day as its employees, like many others, are at home with their families.
However, there is set to be additional disruption this year. This is because of RMT strike action which will see Network Rail employees walking out between December 24 and December 27.
As a result of the walkouts there will not be any Boxing Day services as well. Here are ScotRail's plans over the 2022 Christmas period, including services on Christmas Eve, and when lines will start up again after being off on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.Services will be running across Scotland on Christmas Eve, but they will be reduced with last trains departing much earlier than normal. The National Rail operator said: "Services will run as normal until around 3pm, when services will begin to wind down." You can use the ScotRail website to check whether your specific route is running and the time at which it will depart.
