More than a million workers across Greater Manchester are set to see a major change in their pay packet from this week, as National Insurance contributions are slashed to eight per cent - worth around £793 to the average worker each year.
Despite this cut to National Insurance Contributions (NICs), critics have said that workers are paying more tax than they were previously.
This is because Income Tax thresholds have been frozen since 2021, rather than rising with the past two years of high inflation and higher wages, pushing three million more people over the £12,570 threshold into paying both National Insurance and Income Tax.
However, workers struggling with the cost of living will still notice a significant difference in their payslips from April 6.
