Melissa Barrera and Jenna Ortega reunited with the Scream cast at MPTF’s 17th Annual Evening Before Gala. Barrera and Ortega reassembled the “Core 4” that included Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding, who have been together since the film franchise’s reboot with 2022’s Scream V and 2023’s Scream VI.

The reunion also included cast members Liana Liberato, Tony Revolori, Jack Quaid and Barrera’s on-screen father and OG Ghostface Skeet Ulrich.

Spyglass Media believed Barrera’s stance on the conflict was antisemitic and said in a statement, “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.” Days later, Barrera would break her silence on social media to double down on her stance, saying she felt that having a platform “allows me the privilege of being heard, and therefore I have tried to use it to raise awareness about issues I care about and to lend my voice to those in need.” “I will continue to speak out for those that need it most and continue to advocate for peace and safety, for human rights and freedom,” Barrera continued. “Silence is not an option for me.” Ortega, who played Barrera’s sister on-screen, would drop out of the seventh installment of the horror franchise a day later, citing scheduling conflicts with her Netflix series Wednesday.
