While it wasn’t always her plan to join the family business, Raessa Lea is fifth generation to work at Manchester-based Towing Solutions Ltd and has embraced her role leading the business and helping it grow over the years.

She left behind her career in sales and marketing to become company director in 2008 and, when her dad decided to retire in 2020, Raessa was left to carry on the family legacy.

Like many business owners, she was forced to close the doors when the pandemic hit and many staff left. She then heard about the 12-week executive development programme Help to Grow: Management Course at Manchester Metropolitan University and knew it was the perfect opportunity to take the business forward.

Aimed at small and medium-sized businesses (between five and 249 employees) across the North West, it includes 50 hours of in-depth training and covers everything from finance to understanding your vision and values and provides peer mentorship. The deadline to apply for the next course is May 9. Raessa said: “I’m always trying to improve and this sounded like the perfect opportunity to help the business grow.
