The Reds are understood to be determined to recruit a new central-midfielder this summer and want to reduce the average age of the players within that position.
United, despite recruiting both Christian Eriksen and Casemiro last summer, still want to add further quality to their pool of midfield options this summer and have already set about trying to sign Mason Mount from Chelsea.
