Man with agonising swollen testicles thanks Daily Record for helping him get surgery

A man left suffering from horrendous testicular pain for six years thanked the Daily Record for helping him get surgery amidst a growing shortage of top doctors.Martin Brown, 52, from Musselburgh told how the wait made his life "hell".

He suffered severe testicular pain for six years before he finally got his operation when the Daily Record stepped in.Martin was first diagnosed with the problem in 2017 and was referred to a consultant urologist the following year but it took a further three years to get an appointment.His agony continued as his testicle swelled and shrunk regularly causing him immense pain.Two years ago he was given an x-ray in relation to a hernia and two days later when it was examined by a urologist he said he had found minimal blood flow to his testicle, that a lump had been detected in it and it would have to be removed.But by February this year nothing had been done.Martin described the pain as if he was “being kicked between the legs every time I move”.He added: “The pain goes into my stomach like a steel rod.”Martin finally got his pre-op in January ahead of a planned operation in February this year but two days later it was cancelled without explanation.He said at the time: “Life is hell.”Martin, who has been married to Cathy for 29 years, said sex had been off the agenda because of his condition for “many, many years”.He was unable to play with his grandchildren and rarely even ventured out his house.His inactivity caused his weight to soar by seven and a half stones until he tipped the scales at 23 stones.In desperation he called the Daily Record saying we were his “last hope”.He told us: “All I want is for there to be an end date.”We contacted the then Health Secretary Humza Yousaf who said
