Werder Bremen are thrilled that Celtic have opted to spend £4.3 million on youth academy product Maik Nawrocki as it has provided them with a cash boost.Sports director Clemens Fritz says it was always his thinking the Polish defender would earn a big money move at some stage, as the player they sent to Legia Warsaw in 2021 prepares for life in Glasgow.
Brendan Rodgers moved to sign the defender from the Polish club this week, with Nawrocki joining Werder Bremen as a youngster playing for their II team in the fourth tier of German football.Legia paid Werder £1.25m last year for his services after a successful loan spell, but a sell-on fee for any future deals was inserted, putting them at a financial advantage.
Fritz said: "When you look at young players and you see big potential for development, you protect yourself when he makes a future transfer.
Therefore, yes we have an involvement in his transfer fee to Celtic."Follow Record Sport on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram for all of the up-to-the minute breaking news, video and audio on the SPFL, the Scotland national team and beyond.
