The sixth series of Love Island began broadcasting on 12 January 2020 on ITV2. The series was announced on 24 July 2019 when it was confirmed that two series would air in 2020, and is also the first winter edition of the series. Unlike the summer edition, the luxury villa is located in Cape Town. This series is also the first to be hosted by Laura Whitmore, having taken over from Caroline Flack. The series is narrated by Iain Stirling.

On 15 February 2020, following the death of former presenter Caroline Flack, the Unseen Bits episode due to air that day was not broadcast; but was made available on the ITV Hub. The regular episode did not air the following day either. The show returned on 17 February with a tribute to Flack. On the same day, ITV2 confirmed that the companion series Love Island: Aftersun which was set to air after that episode's main show would not be broadcast. A further tribute to Flack aired during the final on 23 February, which featured a compilation of her time throughout her five series as host

Love Island's Scott van der Sluis may have just missed out on making it to the show's final, but he didn't miss out on the viewing party held in London for dumped islanders.The footballer turned reality TV star was snapped leaving the ME hotel the morning after alongside former Love Island winner Paige Turley.

Scott, 22, was photographed leaving the hotel with multiple suitcases as he sported a grey hoodie and dark trousers. Next to him as he left was Paige, 25, who donned some blue jeans and a white oversized t-shirt.

She kept her hair clipped back out of her face and completed her look with a white handbag and trainers. Both Scott and Paige had been attending the viewing party for the Love Island final, which had been held at the hotel the night before.

Paige, who won the first winter edition of the series back in 2020, performed some of her new music at the party. Sharing a snap to Instagram of the event, she wrote: "Last night's look for the @itvofficial party to celebrate the @loveisland final [palm tree emoji] [red hear emoji]" She followed this we a second snap of herself onstage, to which she added the text: "Ya girl performed at it...
