A double killer has died in Carstairs State Hospital – 10 years after he was detained for stabbing another murderer to death.Andrew Fisher, who murdered his wife in 1990, died on Friday following a battle with dementia.
The 58-year-old stabbed fellow prisoner Craig MacKenzie at a flat in Edinburgh in 2013 after they were both released from prison.Schizophrenic Fisher called 999 and admitted he had stabbed McKenzie, 40, in a frenzied attack.
He had inflicted 32 stab wounds to the head, neck and body of his victim. Fisher, who had served 11 years of a life sentence after killing his wife in Dunfermline, had been freed from prison in 2001.He had alleged that McKenzie, who he met in jail, had been drugging and raping him for months before the attack.
The Crown accepted a plea to the lesser charge of culpable homicide on the basis of diminished responsibility.A hospital source said: “Andrew was actually very well behaved in the hospital and succumbed to dementia.
